Disney Banning Junk-Food Ads On Its Stations

The article "Disney to Banish Junk Food Ads from Kids Shows" on StudentNewsDaily.com originally from WashingtonTimes.com, reveals how Disney plans to get rid of all the non-nutritious food advertisements on its networks. The Walt Disney co. stated that it will become the first major media company to ban junk-food ads from its TV channels, radio stations, and its websites.
This article includes quotes from Disney's CEO Bob Iger. One quote that stood out to me from him was "Parents can be confident that foods associated with Disney characters or advertised on Disney platforms meet our new, healthier nutrition guidelines." This quote shows that they are serious about making their advertisements healthier and that they want parents to be confident and reassured about these changes.
I think that this change happening with Disney is a good one. Childhood obesity is a big problem and I believe that is what they are centering around. People are aware but don't see it as a big deal and that is what Disney is trying to promote to people. This is just one of the many solutions there are to getting rid of childhood obesity.
This article makes me think that some people are ignorant enough to ignore the big problems that are in our society. This article made me dig a little deeper into thinking what childhood obesity can really do to kids. I think most of the problem of childhood obesity involves the parents. Sometimes they don't see that obesity can affect their child in both physical and emotional pain. I hope that in the future obesity wont be such a big problem among kids. It starts with this one big step by Disney.
